about karen demas, owner and creative brains behind demas design
Karen DeMas graduated from Kendall College of Art and Design, Grand Rapids, Michigan, with a BFA in Sculpture and Functional Art. While at Kendall, she also immersed herself in a number of Interior Design courses where she broadened her knowledge of the discipline and profession while also completing design assignments for residential and commercial spaces.
Karen’s entrepreneurial and creative spirit led her to start an on-line jewelry business in 2009 called Informal Elegance. Since that time, she continued to serve a number of clients with interior design and staging projects, including complete makeovers of seven properties.
In 2021, Karen started DeMas Design, LLC to pursue her true passion with greater commitment; to bring wellbeing to people and families by helping them create beautiful, comfortable, and functional living spaces that they will love.
Beautifully designed spaces have always captured my attention, even as a child. Our family outings to furniture stores including IKEA in Belgium where I grew up, drew me in and I loved the happy feeling these spaces gave me. They were my version of Disney World—inspiring places where my creativity was at play.
I loved the harmonious colors, tactile materials, complementing textures, and delightful accessories that contributed to those feelings.
I realized early on that interior design was about creating emotional experiences that enhance our daily lives.
